The Wollongong Mushrooms strain is an Australian strain of Psilocybe cubensis. It is named after the Australian city of Wollongong, which is located on the coast immediately south of Sydney. It has been a popular choice among Australian farmers for decades, but it has only lately reached spore merchants outside of Australia.

This Wollongong Mushrooms is a highly aggressive colonizer, capable of yielding high yields over multiple healthy flushes. It’s a popular strain among beginners, commercial growers, and anyone who want to produce a huge amount of shrooms quickly.

In terms of potency, the Wollongong Mushrooms is around average. These mushrooms are rather huge, with light brown caps and white stems. Although the Wollongong strain isn’t particularly attractive and doesn’t produce extremely high tryptamine levels, it has a number of additional characteristics that make it appealing to many people.

With little time, work, knowledge, or equipment, even the most unskilled cultivator should be able to generate good results from the Wollongong variety.

In this post, we’ll look at the history of this Australian strain, its best features, potency, other similar strains, and how to obtain and culture spore samples.

History of the Wollongong Mushrooms Strain

The Wollongong Mushrooms strain was discovered in South Eastern Australia near the city of Wollongong, not far from Sydney.

It is unknown who discovered, cultured, and dispersed the spores of Wollongong Mushrooms originally. However, we know it was discovered growing in the shade at the bottom of an escarpment – an area of the earth where the elevation varies abruptly.

Wollongong Mushrooms strain has been circulating in the Australian market for decades and is a popular choice among novice cultivators around the country. Until recently, it was never known or discussed in the United States, Canada, or Europe.

The contamination-resistant and vigorous colonization abilities of the Wollongong strain expanded throughout the mushroom population outside of Australia. As a result, the spores were able to cross borders and enter the North American market via Ralphsters Spores.

Because of its excellent features, the Wollongong strain is gradually gaining popularity. This strain’s popularity is growing because to its ease of cultivation and high yields. However, the strain’s genetics are scarce, with only one or two reputable merchants stocking Wollongong strain spore samples.

Wollongong Mushrooms Potency & Psilocybin Content

The Wollongong Mushrooms strain was classified as having moderate potency, with a total tryptamine concentration of 0.5%-0.9%. This mushroom strain, however, has not been scientifically tested enough times to provide a reliable estimate of its potency. We reserve the right to revise this estimate when new information becomes available.

However, based on the few samples we’ve examined thus far, these shrooms have consistently been average when compared to other Psilocybe cubensis mushrooms.

The Wollongong strain has a clean yet potent impact. At doses greater than 3.5 grams, intense visions can occur, with light distortions, throbbing waves of energy, and blurred outlines.

The Wollongong strain’s closed-eye visuals can be colorful and highly enlightening. To experience this, however, a sufficiently high dose is required. Light visual stimulation (closed and open-eye) and a somewhat powerful body high can be expected at doses less than two grams. Wollongong mushrooms have a similar strength to Golden Teacher mushrooms.

Where to Buy Wollongong Spores

Spores from the Wollongong strain are widely available in Australia via spore trading networks. However, the strain is more difficult to find in the United States, Canada, and Europe.

Wollongong spores aren’t widely available, although a number of retailers sell them. Spores samples from the Wollongong strain are now exclusively available in Canada and the United States.

How to Grow Wollongong Mushrooms

The Wollongong Mushrooms variety colonizes vigorously, is resistant to contamination, and may thrive in harsh environments. These traits make the strain easy to cultivate, particularly for inexperienced growers.

The most straightforward and dependable method for cultivating the Wollongong strain is to use PF-Tek. PF-Tek is a simple growth method that uses sterile substrate-filled jars, a basic incubator, and a fruiting chamber.

Fill glass jars halfway with growing medium. The Wollongong strain grows well on most substrates, but studies indicate that it does particularly well on BRF (brown rice flour) cakes and grains like as rye.

Sterilize the jars in a pressure cooker for about 30 minutes after adding the substrate. They are then chilled and inoculated with a spore syringe. Incubate the inoculated jars for two to three weeks, or until the mycelium has completely colonized the substrate.

Remove the resulting cakes from the jars and place them in a basic fruiting chamber once the mycelium has fully formed. Mushrooms will soon start to emerge from the cakes. Harvest the mushrooms as they grow but before the spores fall.

Other Australian P. cubensis Strains

The Wollongong Mushrooms strain was discovered in South Eastern Australia, near Wollongong (thus the name). It is one of only a few strains of Psilocybe cubensis known in the country. Other Australian strains similar to the Wollongong strain include:

1. Australian (AUS)

The Australian strain, often known as “Aussie” or “Gold Tops,” is a powerful strain of Psilocybe cubensis that grows wild in Australian pasture areas. Its look earned it the moniker Gold Tops. These mushrooms have round golden caps, like the Wollongong variety, but are significantly larger in size.

Like the Wollongong Mushrooms strain, the Australian strain is resistant to mold and bacteria contamination, colonizes quickly, and can produce large yields across numerous healthy flushes. This is a great starting strain for anyone looking for a set of genetics that will produce large, robust mushrooms.

2. Blue Meanies (BM)

Blue Meanies, not to be confused with the Panaeolus cyanescens species of the same name, is an Australian P. cubensis strain. This strain has caused considerable confusion due to its frequent nickname.

This variety derives its name from the striking blue hue that develops on the mushroom cap and stems when touched, harvested, or grazed. This blue hue is indicative of psilocybin and can be found in any strain or species of psilocybin mushroom. It is, however, more common and visible in Blue Meanies than in others.

Until injured, these mushrooms are light in color with golden caps and creamy-white stems. They are identical to the Australian strain in many ways, although the fruiting bodies are frequently much smaller.

It colonizes quickly, is resistant to contamination, and grows quite easily with minimal equipment. These characteristics make it an excellent starting strain.

3. Tasmanian (TAS)

The Tasmanian strain is not strictly Australian, but it does share some characteristics with the other Australian strains. It takes its name from the place where it was discovered, Tasmania (a vast wild island off Australia’s southern point). Tasmania’s mild environment is better adapted to the growth of magic mushrooms than continental Australia.

Wollongong Mushrooms strain is known for producing mushrooms with extremely high psilocybin contents. They have golden brown heads and creamy-colored stems and are medium to large in size. The Tasmanian strain is simple to cultivate because to its resilience to contamination and aggressive colonization behaviors.

It’s also a great strain for individuals who like to gather spores for future culture or microscopy. Simply picking the mushrooms with the veil connected allows you to quickly rip the veil and get an abundance of spores. This is one of the best strains for collecting a large number of spores.

Other Beginner Magic Mushroom Strains

The Wollongong Mushrooms strain is simple to grow due to its high contamination resistance and aggressive colonization tendencies. This makes it a good choice for novice growers seeking for their first homegrown strain. However, the Wollongong strain can be tough to obtain. There are, thankfully, other options. If you’re looking for an easy-to-grow novice strain, consider the following genetics:

1. Golden Teacher (GT)

Golden Teacher is one of the most well-known strains of Psilocybe cubensis. It’s a popular choice among beginners because it’s resistant to mold and bacteria and can thrive in less-than-ideal conditions.

Wollongong Mushrooms strain’s origins are unknown, however some believe it was identified somewhere in the Gulf region of the United States. Regardless of its origins, Golden Teacher has been circulating the spore market for decades – at least since the early 1980s.

Golden Teacher is a well-rounded strain that yields shrooms with ordinary to above-average strength (depending on how it’s produced). Most individuals start with this mushroom.

2. Koh Samui (KS)

The Koh Samui strain is a Thai strain named after the location where it originated, Koh Samui. During his 1990s travels through Southeast Asia, the legend “Mushroom” John Allen discovered it.

The Koh Samui strain is resistant to contamination and can survive in less-than-ideal conditions. The resulting mushrooms are known as “fatasses” – short, fat shrooms with thick stems. The potency of the shrooms is above average.

3. Cambodian (CMB)

Another prominent Southeast Asian strain is the Cambodian strain. Mycologist John Allen discovered Cambodian, along with many other strains from the region, during his travels through this part of the world in the 1990s.

This strain is highly resistant to mold and bacteria and may thrive under unfavorable settings. The mushrooms it produces are a little uninteresting to look at, but they are really potent. If cultivated in a steady environment, the strain can also produce notoriously thick flushes with high yields.

The Cambodian strain is becoming increasingly popular because to its potency and simplicity of production. Spore samples can be found almost anywhere and can be cultivated by a complete beginner with little equipment or experience of mushroom culture.

Strains vs. Species: What’s the Difference?

The Wollongong strain belongs to the genus Psilocybe cubensis. P. cubensis is just one of hundreds of different hallucinogenic fungal species. It is one of the most popular and widespread hallucinogenic mushroom species, growing in a variety of habitats around the world.

There are hundreds of strains of Psilocybe cubensis with varying characteristics. Despite the fact that two strains can be radically different in look and potency, they are both members of the same species.

A strain is a genetic variation within a species. Although two strains within a species may differ greatly, they share the same fundamental building elements, putting them in the same biological family. Two strains of the same species can exchange genetics and produce viable offspring.

Strains are not just visible in the fungus Psilocybe cubensis.

Strains can be found in thousands of species throughout multiple kingdoms on our planet. Many strains evolve organically as a result of adaptations to environmental factors, pests, and illnesses. Other strains are created by cross-cultivation and selective breeding in order to produce new qualities that are advantageous or enjoyable to humans.

Penis Envy is a super-potent strain of Psilocybe cubensis that we created. We’ve created various cannabis strains with varying flavors, potency, and yield potential. We’ve also crossed dog breeds to develop new breeds (strains) that are better suited to specific jobs, environmental situations, or as “pets.”
